Nia: Enhance Your Inner Beauty

4 Sep

At Mira Salon and Spa, we strive to reveal both your inner and outer beauty through our salon and spa services. We feel that in addition to feeling great about how you look, it is equally important to feel beauty pouring through us internally. One way that I have been able to experience this is through Nia. Angela Williams, the only certified instructor teaching classes in Bloomington, Indiana, describes Nia as,

“A sensory-based movement lifestyle that leads to health, wellness, and fitness. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Nia draws from disciplines of the martial arts, dance arts, and healing arts. Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with and condition the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. Classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring music. Stiff beginners and highly fit athletes alike can adapt Nia to meet their needs by choosing from three intensity levels. Nia can positively shape the way you feel, look, think and live.”

“Nia has allowed me to love my body. One Nia motto is ‘Love your Body. Love your Life’ and this has happened for me! By moving with awareness, paying attention to sensation, and accepting my body as it is right now, I have learned to love it! This has changed my life. It has allowed me to free myself from the issues of low body image I have struggled with my whole life. I am now free to focus on other things in my life. I have lost weight, gained strength and flexibility, and increased my agility, stability, and mobility. I have also found freedom for my spirit by releasing emotion and being creative in every class. Nia has completely changed my body and my relationship with my body.”

This is apparent in every one of Angela’s classes. Once the music starts, the hour flies by, and the energy you’re left with carries you into the rest of your day, beautifully. Angela Williams is a Certified Nia Blue Belt Instructor, with over 100 hours of somatic training and monthly continuing education. She holds a degree in Gender Studies from Indiana University, linking her practical training to research on the body and body image. Angela became a Certified Nia instructor in January 2010 and has been teaching ever since. She teaches Nia to connect people with the healing power of their own bodies. She shares the freedom that comes from living in a body that you love. Angela’s classes are fun, powerful, playful, and transformative.
